I took this picture of Beau yesterday evening. For about a week now, he's had a bald spot on his eyebrow. What would cause this? It just looks funny because he has dark eyebrows and now he's got this big bald spot. It's not sore looking or red or irritated. He doesn't itch it, or seem bothered at all. Any ideas?

Do not mean to alarm you but my 7 month old had a bald spot on his body. I took him to the vet and he had puppy mange. They treated him and all is well. Saw a spot on his face but it was red where there was no hair. It was my Boston that had nicked him and the hair grew back.

I would definitely take him to the vet and have him checked out, my Abby had hair loss right around her eyes at about the same age and it turned out to be demodectic mange. She had to go through several treatments and scrapings but it's all better now.

I really hope it isn't demodex. Beau has a history of demodex. We have the medication to treat him. He's been on a maintenance dose since July. He was diagnosed with it right after we got him last October. We fought through 3 boughts of it. Ugh. I really hope it itsn't back. Typically when he was losing his hair due to another bought, he got little red spots on him and his hair would stand up almost like a bug bite and then he'd lose the hair. This hasn't been like that. With the demodex, he usually starts with it right on his shoulder area. We shall see! :/

Typically in the shelter where I volunteer pups and dogs with mange it starts on the head usually around the eyes and snout. Thats what made me think mange and demodex can come back for sure. Have you thought of adding supplements and or herbs to help boost the immune system since this is a recurring problem?

There are a few herbs that come to mind. I give Kippah Astragalus I swear by this stuff. I also gave it to Gouda once I found she had cancer albeit in much higher doses. Oregon grape is another immune booster although I have never used it but I knew others that have had good results. Licorice root but its an herb thats naturally high in sugars and shouldnt be used if a dog has diabetes. I used Licorice root with Gouda. Any of the mushrooms like Reishi, Maitake, and Shiitake. I used various mushroom extracts for Gouda.
