Emma has a 1" normal nylon type collar, it's not too tight, not too loose. The problem is it's wearing off her fur on her neck, poor babe. I wish she could just go without, but that feels wrong to me. Tho, she doesn't use a leash at home...

Pheona had that issue with hers. After talking with our trainer we were advised to get a leather collar for her. We've had no issues with it since we put it on last summer. I don't like not having collars on my girls either. I think part of it is, if they get out of the house or the yard, then they have ID on them.

If my dogs wear anything its a 2" Martingale. Only 2 of my group have collars on at all times so I can grab them if I need to. All my dogs have microchips and they never leave our property without us.

Dempsey has a very soft nylon collar, but even it irritates him, to the point where he'll scratch himself raw, if it's left on too long. Because of this, he only wears it when we leave our house. He also wears a Holt headcollar on walks.

I use a rolled leather collar for my boy. But it's there only to hang his tags off of. When we go for walks he wears a harness.

I use a double no-slip collar because Duke is the master of escaping collars and harnesses. It also helps with him not choking because it's wider. I also like to double up and use a harness and collar connected by a coupler. Then I have a back up and I'm not pulling his neck around.

Nikki has a leather collar. She also wears it so I can grab her. My pug only has a collar on when we go out. Nikki's stronger though

Wyatt has a nylon collar and harness. But he rarely wears the collar anymore. I always take it off at night to give him more comfort and during the day if he will be crated. Sometimes I put it on during the day if he gets rowdy. For some reason it helps calm him.

Mine don't wear collars at home.
The metal part where the tags are irritates their skin. They only wear their collars when we go out for a walk, but that is just for their tags. We use harnesses for the leashes. |
