Oh I also had a gentleman grab rusty by his collar for just doing the boxer bow and letting out a play bark. He is a retired cop or something and I clearly let him know that if he ever grabbed my dog for no reason at all again there would most definitely be a reason for me to grab him. I've stopped being polite to ignorant people. It's all how u approach someone. Sorry for my rant but people at dog parks can be so ignorant that I've stopped being the nice girl who lets people walk all over me and my dogs

Welcome to the forum! Yes, boxers sure do foam and slobber, rest assured! If anyone ever kicked my Laney, I would do some whoop-ass on them right then and there!!!

Wow I had such a different experience. I had owners coming to me telling me how beautiful Nikki was. I hope I get the same people next time lol. There was a Visala there that seemed to do the boxing thing with Nikki. Other than that they all just chased each other. Everyone was friendly. All the dogs and people got along.

Sigh...I've stopped taking Dempsey to the dog park. He gets way too controlling with other dogs - beyond normal play. Unfortunately, he gravitates towards dogs that are easily intimidated - he's a bully, I guess. When a dog stands up to him, he backs off and is fine. He tried bullying a young Dogue de Argentino (sp?), and she finally stood up for herself, and then they were fine. At home, my little westie mix owns him...

Thanks for the tips and stories! Perhaps I will look into setting up a boxer play date at the park. There are enough boxer and boxer mixes in this area to make it work!
Yeah, people always come up to me and tell me their history with boxers too. They are very popular here, but strangely enough- no one really knows their traits. One time Lorelei's drool was so bad, when was stringing down to the ground, she quickly turned her head to look at something, the drool whipped up in the air and wrapped around her face. She ran around with a drool mask over her eyes and nose. GROSS! Haha. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

People just don't get boxers - I've even had close friends afraid that my dogs were fighting when really they were only playing with each other. They do sound ferocious. They sound a lot meaner than the lovey cuddly dogs that they really are. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

Thankfully, everytime I've been to the dog park thus far, people understand that is just how Horatio is but he is always a very quiet dog when playing. He's too focused on playing to bother himself with barking. LOL. And everyone laughs when he starts "boxing" other dogs.
The drooling is normal. Horatio is only 8 and a half months old and he's just starting the crazy drool. LOL. In fact, as I type this there is a hug drool spot on the chair next to me from Horatio staring at my breakfast. |
