Sue - funny... I didn't want any kids until I had one! My husband is the one that pushed to have our first. I would've been perfectly content without any... but now that I have my 2 girls (and I would've gone for a 3rd but hubby said no! lol) I couldn't imagine my life without them. Funny how life works...

If they were perfect for me they'd at least put up with my dog(s)- actually been there
I've actually avoided relationships based on Dexters (my 9 year old constant companion) reaction to them. Dexters a great judge of character and usually happy to see everyone- so if there is someone he sniffs and walks away from without wagging his tail- I'll take his word for it that something is off... His judgement has never failed me! Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

Gracie and I are a package deal...along with any other Boxer I may adopt or foster in the future. If he hates my baby, then he must hate something about me too. Plus, I think I connect more deeply with people who are understanding & truly loving to animals. So if a potential partner isn't this way.... NEXT!
Actually, I let Gracie be the ultimate judge since she's so good at weeding all the weirdos out of my life..lol.

My first serious relationship after my divorce was not very fond of animals. At that point, I had three cats and no dogs. He was *almost* perfect--his only two flaws being his "tolerance" of animals and the fact that after four years, he still couldn't decide where things were headed. I'm a "sh!t or get off the pot" kinda girl, so as hard as it was I broke it off. Now that I'm with Joe and see his genuine love for the dogs, I know that the other relationship never would've worked out, at least not in a way that I would've been fulfilled. Joe and I just celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary last week.
On a side note, I was briefly engaged to someone else before I met Joe. I had quit my job, moved to Colorado, we were in the process of moving into an apartment, and were finalizing wedding plans. One night he wanted to play the "if you had to choose, would it be me or the cats?" game. He backed me into a corner and was being a bully about it, seriously wanting an answer, saying how we shouldn't be together if I couldn't pick him. The next day (this was three weeks before the wedding), I called my best friend who drove out, loaded me and my cats and belongings into a U-Haul, and we headed back to Omaha. So, yes, my animals will ALWAYS come first!

Wow... obviously I wouldn't tolerate someone bullying me over someone I love (be it a human or animal) but if I HAD to choose between my husband and kids and my animals, that would be a total no brainer! Obviously my husband and kids would win hands down. Thankfully we all love animals and don't have these issues... lol

I wouldn't get close enough to someone to know if they were perfect if they didn't accept and treat my dogs the way I do. That includes sleeping in the bed with me! I've only dated one guy that wasn't ok with it. I think my dogs are such a big part of my life you probably don't want to date me if you don't like my dogs anyways... Maybe why I've never had to make that choice lol
Totally agree... My dogs are like my children. My son would probably tell you they're even treated better lol Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

I would tell him buh-bye!! But when I met my now husband, I only had a cat. He says the cat didn't like him but she was just picky & didn't like having to share me. She'd always sit on my lap & I guess she didn't like him being so close to me. But he helped take care of her when I had her spayed & had her declawed. He was like a worried new dad with a baby. LOL I too didn't want kids but hubby did & I'm happy we did cause I wouldn't trade my 3 boys for anything (okay, I have days where I would...LOL) but my pets are my fur babies. My boys will tell you the girls are more spoiled than they are. LOL

My boyfriend doesn't like dogs in general. But he tolerates Moxie for me. (I think he really loves her, he just won't admit it. Ha!) But no I would not give up my dog for anyone.
