They had an interesting topic on the radio station I listen to last week. The question was if you'd date someone who hated your dog. The scenario that they gave was that this person was the perfect person for you in everyway and they were ok with dogs in general, but for some reason they specifically hated your dog. Would you be able to make this relationship work knowing this other person hated your dog? Would you be willing to get rid of the dog for this person?
For me personally, I couldn't date someone who hated my dog nor would I ever give up my dogs for anyone! I don't have kids and don't want kids so while I won't go as far as to say my dogs are my kids, they're pretty darn close to that level. There's just now way I could part with them for someone. What are your thoughts?

I kind of figured the majority of us here would feel that way since this is a dog forum, but I'm sure some people can make a relationship work if their significant other doesn't like their dog. To me it just seems unfathomable that someone would NOT like my dogs. LOL They really mean so much to me and I just thinking it would cause a lot of stress and strain in the relationship, if not right away certainly down the road. For me anyway.

Back in the days of dating my now hubby was not very fond of my only dog Thea. She was a little wild to say the least BUT he knew that she was mine and I loved her. He went out of his way to include her because he knew what she meant to me. If he had taken a different approach and excluded her or always put her down I seriously doubt our relationship would have ended up where it is.

Well I will be the crazy one and say my dog is my child period! I have no skin kids and never have wanted any. I dont know what its like to have skin kids but I do know the day I helped Gouda cross the bridge the deep primal pain and anguish I felt I could only imagine was like losing a child. So no matter how much I think that person is THE one if they didnt except, understand and respect my feelings about my dog I wouldnt be with them.
Its funny because my best friend and her partner always said when they retire they will have enough land to build me a little house on the corner of their property. They know how I feel. They say...give Sue a house and a dog and she will be the happiest lol
