I agree that the care of this sweet four month old baby girl is in question.. I also believe that we all have our own opinions on what that care should have been... from what I understand she was very young when you got her she spent a lot of time outside,, she got into poison which resulted in the current situation,, she then was brought into the house and put in laundry room and then force fed liquids which helped to prolong her life or suffering(different views) and in the end the poison got the better of her.. could she have been saved by going into he vet instead of being dealt with over the phone.. maybe in the beginning,, but once you saw her hemmorhage or turn blind from brain bleeds I seriously doubt it yet still she did not get to vet as fast as some of us would have taken her,, again all a matter of opinion...I for one when my fur babies are sick will not put into different room,, I will and a lot fo others on here actually will lay on floor and console them or walk the floor with them or Like me be a drama boxer mama... and hunt our vets down or a vet that is willing to spend all night up with us too... I and sorry this happened and so sorry that Ella had to die.. because in essence the people who are called heartless are the ones who would hunt down our vets and some of us are just not willing to say it out loud for fear of being told the rules yet again... but this is a clear cut case of what could happen if we choose to only take advice over the phone and not hound the ass off of someone who actually has the knowledge to save them... again RIP Ella and I too do not believe Kari to be heartless in fact it is the exact opposite that encourages her to speak up for Ella and to mourn her with out ever touching her

Wow...my heart aches for poor Ella. I wish I could unread that post. I just have terrible angst over the description of her final days. I need to leave work early and hug my boyz!

Sorry to hear of your loss. My parents cocker (coincidentally also named Ella) has gotten into rat poison probably a half dozen times (maybe more) over the last 5 years or so. Luckily they've always figured it out very quick and do a quick trip to the vet where they induce vomiting and shoot her up with vitamin K which she has to go back for a couple times over the following couple weeks.

I think one of the people the op should be most upset with, besides herself, is the "friend" who advised her.
I'm sorry, but no vet tech worth their salt would have ever told anyone with a lethargic, anorexic 4 month old puppy that it was having a "diabetic attack", and force fluids and honey down its throat. I have worked as a vet tech for 25 years, and would NEVER have given that advice to anyone, including family, regardless of the circumstances. Diabetic attack???? Seriously??? I can't fault the veterinarian, who was only going on what he/she was told, and if I read correctly, encouraged the op to bring the puppy in to be seen more than once. That course of action is the only chance that poor little baby had....and the only option that was declined. I'm very sorry that this happened. In future, perhaps follow some of the advice that has been given here as far as budgeting for vet expenses. That advice makes sense.

Dear poor Ella, my thoughts go with you was you take your final winters nap.
That was indeed a very sad story to read and of course I have my own thoughts on the situation but that isn't going to help you overcome obstacles like this in the future. Money is tight for a lot of us and I can't say that just because you aren't rich you shouldn't know the love of a dog. Lots of ppl who aren't financially secure manage. What I would add here for furture reference is, prior to getting another dog, open a simple savings account and begin to add money to it here and there when you have a spare dollar or two, even pockets full of change adds up over time. Let it keep growing until it's needed, no matter how much or how little you manage to accumulate. This way, in the future if you are faced with such an obstacle, you'll at least have something to fall back on and if nothing else, a down payment towards proper vetting. Just my two cents. |

I'm feeling much the same way!!! I know that the second my dogs show any sign of something unexplainably wrong, it's off we go to the vet no matter what I gotta do to get the money. They deserve it!!!
