I truly hate the whole idea. In my township, you have to renew every year and if you don't (like, what if you forget!), they told me animal control comes and takes the dog away. I am sorry I ever registered her.

In burlington Ontario it's $25 if they're fixed and $50 unaltered. No breed restrictions.. Pitbulls however have to be grandfathered because of the ban.

Registration here is done through the Humane Society. When a dog is given a rabies vaccine at the vet's office, that information is turned over to the Humane Society and registered in their database. A bill for registration fees is then auto-generated at the beginning of each year. All fees are due by March 15. Failure to register results in a $500 fine per pet. What sucks is the fee for registration is determined by each individual county. If I lived in Sarpy County, it would only be $5 per pet. Instead, it's $26.

It's a county license here. Altered dogs/cats are $10 a year, intact animals are $16 a year, and puppies/kittens under a year old are $10. Service animals are free. If you neglect to get, or forget to get, the license, it's a $120 fine per animal, plus the cost of a license.

Here it's $15 a year per spayed/neutered dog, with a limit of 3 dogs per household. They send a renewal reminder in January, which is handy. I've never lived anywhere that you didn't require to register to your pets within town/city limits.

In Kingston, ON we have to register our dogs annually with the city. It is $17.50/dog if they are fixed and $46.00/dog if they are intact. There is no limit on the number of animals per household though.

Burlington has a 4 dog limit but someone from AC told me they really only enforce it if they have to. I had 3 dogs and when my mum passed away I took her dog do I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have a hassle with 4 dogs. Worse came to worse I would have just "dog sat" her

We don't have to get licensed here. They just require a current rabies tag at all times.
I read somewhere a while back that we have a 3 pet limit in my county. Oops. I have 3 pups and 3 cats. The rabies laws are pretty crazy though. You should report not only bites (obviously i can understand that to a degree) but scratches too, and if a scratch bleeds, the animal must be quarantined for 10 days or put down and sent for testing. Seriously? Scratching? My cats would never be out of quarantine! Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App
