Affection or dominance

My 8 month old Opie is turning out to be a great dog, as I hoped he would.

I wonder though, when I m sitting on the couch with him, sometimes he kinda stands over me and licks my face.

I thought affection, but a friend suggested it might be dominance.

I know my older female wil stand over our baby as a way of showing dominance.

Dogs lick at other dogs' mouths for food and to show subordination. However standing over you could be dominance. Or, he just likes what you've just had to eat!

He is claiming you as his. My guys will also do this, I usually tell them to get off of me and then give them loving from the side or I pull them onto my lap and snuggle them like a baby.

I guess theres no doubt, 2many', who's boss when you flipp 'em into a cradling the baby type position?

I'll give this a try. This way im not unresponsive or rejecting, but at the same time reminding him who's the puppy meister!

Thats exactly how I see it. You want loving which you can have but in the way I want.

Nothing more submissive than being on their back.

I really wouldn't start trying the whole alpha roll thing. I promise you it won't do anything.

I dont do the Alpha roll but I am the boss in my house. All my dogs cuddle on a daily basis in that newborn position. It is never forced on them, they love being held like babies.

Ok, yeah this i agree with. I do think the human needs to be the boss. Especially if you have six dogs. I would never force it though. Thanks for clearing that part up.
