Abby's spay appointment has been set up. She goes in at 8-8:15am on 1/14 and it's looking like it will be an overnight stay. My mother feels more comfortable with her being there as opposed to being at home. I've been protesting it, but she still prefers her to stay in the hospital. She's still worried that Logan will be too excited and he might accidentally hurt her. I can understand her logic, but it's not like we can't work around that! I'm going to keep working on it, but as of right now she'll be at the clinic overnight. Abby's their dog so they get final say. I know it won't be the end of the world if she has to stay overnight, but I'd feel more comfortable having her home.
I have one vacation day left from work and I have to use it by 1/20 so I'll either be taking the day we pick her up off or the following day to stay at home with them.

Aww.. I can imagine how you feel though.. the idea of not having her there with you after her ''big op''.. but i am sure everything will work out. Big kisses to Abby!! Do you have your other boys neutered? I am debating on it.. might start a new thread and get some opinions.

Some people are vocally against it, some are for it. You just have to do your research on the risks and benefits and decide on which route is right for you. I personally feel that there are risks either way and I prefer to make sure 100% that my animals will never and could never add to the population. My biggest fear with having an unaltered female is that someone would steal her and use her as a breeding machine. As cautious and protective as we are with our animals I know that that the chances of someone stealing her is very slim to none in the first place, but I also believe when there's a will there's a way. Thanks! Yeah, our vet keeps them overnight to make sure they're confined in a kennel and not able to run around. Although, after just being under anesthesia I don't know many dogs who would be up and running that fast. It still makes me sad to think of her there all by herself, but she'll most likely sleep it off the entire time anyway.

Did you ever decide what to do about Abby's feeding situation while she's over nighting at the vets? Curious to know what you and your mother came up with.
Also, you know I never really considered the posibility that someone would steal an intact female for breeding purposes but you make a good point and it's sure something to think on. |

I will admit I have a wild imagination sometimes. LOL But yes, that thought definitely occured to me. It is a scary thought.
We're still debating the food issue. I we're either going to get some of the premade raw to mix in with her real food for a week or so and bring some of that to the vets. I was also thinking of making a brown rice and boiled chicken mix. I used to feed that to Riley when he was sick. I don't like the grain side of it, but I don't think it'll have long lasting effects. Just enough to feed her for a day if she's hungry and it'll be bland too so it may help her if she has an upset tummy. The way I see it is that it's no different from us going from a healthy diet to McDonald's for a meal. As soon as she's home she'll be back on raw.

Yes for one night I think she'll be ok too Mandy. She probably won't have much of an appetite. I know Duke didn't eat anything for almost 2 days. Well, more like a day and a half but still, you know what I mean.
It'll all be OK |

Mandy, I know it's tough, but, I feel it is always better to keep them overnite. That way they can be watched over. She will be out of it anyway. Please don't worry so much.... That way when you pick her up, she'll feel alot better for you. Abby will be fine.
