Nico is 7 months.. He is eating the xmas tree and we can't get him to stop. Any good tricks?
If I'm in the room and say no he stops.. But right back at it once I turn my head.. Besides a gate around the tree (even thou I don't even think that would work) Is there anything else I could try? We haven't even decorated the tree yet. I'm scared to put any ornaments on the tree in fear he will destroy them. Julia Nico ~ 7 months |

We had taught both of our pups the "leave it" command along with sit, down, wait /stay.
Does Nico know the leave it command? The first time each of ours had a Christmas tree, we put them on leash and gave the leave it command cause they knew what that meant. We've only ever had a couple nibbles off the bottom branches. Otherwise, patience, persistence and repetition just like any other training. Good luck, let us know how the tree fares. |

We have a rugrat style gate around our tree. Murphy still go to the tree but we tell her "leave it" and usually she walks away. If she walks about with us telling "leave it" we give her a treat. Mainly the gate is around the tree for my peace of mind.

We are working on leave it.. Sometimes he gets it sometimes he doesn't. We have finally mastered "off" Nico is very stubborn and ONLY listens to me so I know he gets confused by everyone else in the family..
Is it harmful for him to be eating the tree? He got to a for a bit before I got home as my son couldn't grab him and he kept at the tree.. Then while cooking dinner Nico snatched a few pieces of raw steak and 10 min later threw up everything.. O this is gonna be a long season.. LOL |

Lucy and Toby do the same thing we had to invest in a "play yard" octagon style baby gate(we got ours from petsmart)to save our tree and my sanity, at one point it was literally like one of them had a ornament in their mouth every time I turned around, it was nuts!
