My boyfriend & i have an 11 month old boxer, named Delilah. She and i are having what seems to be dominance issues. Any time i hug my boyfriend or kiss him delilah whines and cries, then eventually resorts to jumping and scratching to get us away from each other. Anyone else experiencing this, or know how to deal with this?

We got Pheona at a young age (4 weeks to be honest..way to early) but I took care of her, did all the feedings, out to potty..etc. Well shortly before she was 8 weeks my husband deployed & didn't come home till she was almost 8 months old. She wasn't sure who he was but when I brought him home not only did she see that I was excited to see him but Maggie (our boxer mix) was so excited to see him so I guess she figured he was a good guy. Well when things calmed down, if we hugged or sat close she'd shove herself between the 2 of us as a way of getting him away from me. When he'd move she'd look at me as if to say..look mom, I did good. But he'd always move right back next to me or hug me again. I'd tell her no, he's fine. I think for her it was more of a...that is my mom you can't get to close & the fact that she really didn't know him. Once she got to know him (yes, she did the why are you still here look at him for the longest time) she was fine. Every once in a while she'll try to come between us now but not to often. Mostly when she's in one of her, I need attention moods.

Wyatt only get mad/jealous if I'm on the phone or talking to certain people. He's really bad at the dog park with other dogs approaching me. He will play fine with them, but once they come within 10 feet of me and he knows they are coming over to say hi to HIS mommy something clicks and he's so jealous and almost goes into attack mode. I have to explain to owners he's really protective of me yadda yadda yadda. Sometimes it's cute to see how much he cares and then again it's embarrassing bc I feel he is being bad. Just show her you love both equally and let her know who rules in the house! Good luck:-)

Most of our dogs have been mama's girls and they are all jealous of me and dh. I don't know if you can change that, but if she listens to your boyfriend, he needs to teach her that she can't jump on you or scratch. If nothing else make her sit and stay. Sadie isn't too bad, but if we hug she will whine and circle us like a shark, she knows not to jump, but she lets us know that I am supposed to only pay attention to her, not daddy.
I'm pretty cruel and will torment her, if we're sitting on the couch I will scoot next to dh and make really loud kissy noises and she can't stand it, gets out of her bed and grabs her rubber bone and tries to give it to us to play with her. God forbid the cat jumps on the couch and tries to lay next to me, she can't stand that either, but she can't get on the furniture, all she can do is sit on the floor and complain. |
