I've always started mine out as puppies using human toe nail clippers they aren't as intimidating and you can work faster with them. By the time their nails are too big and too hard to use these they are use to being handled and don't give you a hard time anymore.

Abby is certainly a beautiful girl and you do take lovely pictures.
With my brat pack I began clipping their nails with human toenail clippers fairly early on as we had to bottle feed and their needing always scratched the dickens out of my hands. When I finally switched to dog nail trimmers I had to use the treat method as well, but perhaps I did it backwards lol. I would give them the treat to distract them while I was doing the trimming. Now, unless they get their great, they won't let me trim nails. I wished I'd have started the dremel with them when they were bitty babes because now the noise scares them too much but I really do like the nice rounded edges you can get with that verses the sharp edge of the trimmers.... Sigh, hind sight as always. |

Beautiful pictures!!! Oh my teacher told me something this weekend about jackpotting. You might already know it but I'm not a genius at jackpotting yet. She says, Remember after you jackpot to end the session, bc if you go back to giving only one treat, she will think, I just did it and u got all excited gave me lots of cookies! and I do it again and only get one treat? Didn't I do it right? :{
Anyway, thought I would share her knowledge!!! And again, I love your photos. <3 Thanks for sharing them! Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

I have had to start back from scratch with Sally and her nails... she has decided that when I pick up the clippers I am the devil incarnate!
So last week I smeared one hand in peanut butter and played with her toes and the clippers in the other, by the time I got through playing with her toes she was done "cleaning" my hand! |
