I read something else your vet said that strikes me as very odd. He said she probably eats her poop because she is deficient in nutrients? I'm not a vet and don't claim to know everything about dogs and nutrition, but I know that some dogs eat poop and there doesn't seem to be any reason for it. We had a german shepherd that did this and he was in perfect health, certainly didn't lack anything in nutrition. Our vet was the one that said that some dogs just do this and there isn't much you can do about it, other than keep the yard clean. She was quite positive that there was no physical reason for this icky habit. So that would bother me that your vet said something that, to my knowledge probably isn't true.

I could accept the fact that the vet and I might not agree on everything. But when he is so insistent about it and repeatedly tells you that he is right and you basically know nothing, than I think that I would switch vets. If your dog is healthy, a good weight with shiny coat, clear eyes etc then obviously whatever you are feeding her is working. If she was nutrient starved at her young age, she would have problems way more serious than poop eating. Does your vet sell Science Diet products in his office? If so, that is probably the motivation behind his wanting you to feed that product. I'm sure they make money selling the products.

Personsally, if the vet didn't at least agree to disagree with my feeding choice I would start looking for another vet. The vet I go to has always been very good to me and my family. We've been going there for 26 years now. With all that said, they don't know that I switched Logan and Abby over to raw yet. I know that they're anti-raw and that they like to push the brands that they carry (Royal Canin, Purina, Science Diet, etc). They've never pushed back at me when I said I fed them different brands of kibble, but raw is different. They will find out soon enough what we're doing and we'll see how it goes. Bottom line though is that they are my dogs. I did my research and I'm comfortable with my choice and I feel I'm doing what's best for them. If they don't like it, sorry. I'm certainly not switching them Purina just because they sell it.

I agree with what everyone else says..change vet! Don't listen to them. At vet school you don't learn about nutrition. Also of course they are going to think that they are right as they are the vet..luckily my vet is pretty cool. They know that we feed both of oursraw and they don't try and force their opinion on us nor belittle us.
As for the poop eating situation .. There is no real evidence to back that dogs eat poop of they are missing or deficient. That's just what dogs do! (Not all.. But it is normal). She won't get sick so don't worry. Dogs have much stronger stomach acid than humans which is why they don't get sick from eating raw meat/poop and all the other crap they eat. Buddha and boss have done the same.. It is a phase she will grow out of.
Hope you get rid of those nasty worms-- we had a bad case too when we brought boss home.
Don't second guess your decision.
Best of luck!!

Thank you everyone! Thank you for your enthusiastic support! Obviously we at this boxer forum take the health of our dogs very seriously and that usually begins with what we are feeding them. I take pride in the fact that we are not the average consumers and blindly follow mass marketing and are constantly educating ourselves.

Thank you all again for your support!!!

Looks like ill be keeping the diet and changing the vet

Not all poop eaters are nutrient starved. Zeke is a life long lover of the feces. His vet says he is healthy. I swear, he needs to go to crapeaters anonymous. The only thing that stops him is yard cleaning. I hope you have better luck with your pup in that department.

Momma dogs eat puppy poop to remove scent and be clean. It's usually a learned behavior. I suggest changing vets and being faster with the pooper scoop
