Annoyed at the Store
I took Abby out to the pet store today to get some more socialization in. Initially it was a pleasant experience. One lady stopped to say high and she put her hand down in front of Abby so she could sniff it and instead Abby gave her her paw. LOL It was very cute!
Now the annoyance. A lady stopped to ask what breed she was and I said boxer. She looked at Abby again with this puzzled expression and said it's so hard to tell because they look like pitbulls at this age. That didn't annoy me. What did annoy me was that when she was patting Abby she said "you need to tell your mommy to give you some more food, you're too skinny". My mother and I just looked at each other. Her tone was so condescending and very rude. I bit my tongue and politely told the lady that she's still a growing puppy going through phases and that as a breed she's supposed to be lean anyway. When I look at Abby I do not think she's skinny as in being unhealthy. She's skinny as a boxer should be. When we started raw feeding she did lose some weight which bothered me, but now that she's getting red meats she's put weight back on. Personally, I think she's perfect right now. I'm attaching a pic taken earlier this month. I think she looks pretty darn good. Correct me if I'm wrong!

You are right! Mother knows best! Don't listen to the crazies, well, not all the crazies..I'm crazy but I'm okay to listen to hehe. But that woman is nuts. Abby has a beautiful figure! People always tell me that I need to feed my dog more too...but I have to tell them boxers are naturally lean and that I'm feeding him plenty and I know more about him than they do. So :P''' on them.

She looks perfect!! I am so tired of people thinking that fat is healthy! Boxers are meant to be lean and have an hour glass shape to them. If your dog looks like a sausage its time to start cutting back on the food.

Thanks guys! As I said, I was worried about her weight when she first went on raw, but I do feel she's spot on now. She just rubbed me the wrong way. Who knows, maybe she was expecting more muscle considering she thought she was a pitbull or something. She's clearly uneducated about boxers.

Looks fine to me too... Maybe it's the "stripes" that throw people off. Although my dad constantly says Wyatt looks too skinny and i think he's on the thick side!

Mandy, she looks great! But your post worried me cause I realize I just got back from walking porter and ran into a neighbor with anew rescue dog. Very cute poodle type mix but I called him a little chunky monkey. LOL. bad me! My neighbor did say the be told her he's gotta lose 10 lbs.
