Help! My boxer has a tumor on his bottom...

I am praying someone on here might have some suggestion on help for my boxer. He was diagnosed in October with a mass on his bottom. It is right next to his anus and we were told that the only option was surgery but that it would ruin the muscles around his anus and he would have absolutely no control of his bowels.
Smoky is 6 1/2 years old and is such a wonderful animal. I can't bear te thought of having to have him put to sleep, but at this point we are option-less. The tumor has caused him to lose so much weight, even though he is still eating regularly. He can not poo well anymore and he mass is now the size of a grapefruit.
Does ANYONE have any ideas, suggestions, anything?

Did you have a biopsy done to find out what kind of tumor you're dealing with?

I just saw a story of the pitbull looking for a home, here I believe, with the same problem? It sounds similar anyway. Poor baby hope he feels better soon
