How on earth do you guys get your Boxers to wear a sweater or other clothing? We bought Bruno one of those "vest" things where it velcros around their neck and behind the front legs. We tried to put it on, and besides finding out it was too small.....i.e. when we did get it on him the behind the legs closure was just barely big enough.........we almost couldn't get it on him. All he wanted to do was bite at it and when we managed to get it on and secured he just flailed around so we gave up and took it off. I KNOW we're doing something stupidly wrong as I have seen pics of one of his brothers and his sister on Facebook wearing sweaters with no problems. He wears a car harness with no problems so it's not like he's not used to have something around him once in a while, though granted a car harness is not as covering.

I have never attempted to put a sweater/jacket on either of my girls. I did tell my hubby if it got to cold down here though, I would get them something. Maybe if we take them to Petsmart today, I'll try one on them. LOL

I started clothes on them while young puppies. Lots of praise and treats and constant telling them how beautiful they look.
We have the same type of coat for Karma. When we bought it a couple months ago it was a bit big and still is. I think we bought a large. Shes not done growing yet so it should fit for awhile. We take her to the store to fit them properly. Most pet stores allow you to bring your pet in. I've even brought one of my bearded dragons into petsmart. My suggestion would be to reinforce your training and put the coat on during training. Remember to reward your dog. Let him wear it for a cpl minutes and reward and take it off. Keep increasing the time and try taking him out for a quick potty with it on. Let him associate the coat with good things and he will eventually see it as a fun time, and we all know our boxers live for fun! So I've decided that my girls need boots when it rains. I'm so tired of picking mud & grass out from between their toes. Not quite sure how they will like the boots. Figure I'll have them wear them in the house for a while to make sure they leave them alone.

Thanks for the tips all. It doesn't usually get super cold here, maybe the low 30's, but he might get some trips to the snow so that's why I was thinking a sweater might be good.

keep trying it takes a few times of him wearing it for him to accept the sweater, when I first started putting sweaters on my pups they hated it but with time they learned to accept their sweaters. try putting him in a knit sweater or something without velcro so he can't pull it off or play with it.

like the above posts say, just keep at it, incorporate with your training, positive reinforcement - treats, praise, how good looking you are! Eventually they all get the hang of it ...
