So recently since the snow, when we wipe off Harley's paws, his hair stands up. This isn't normal behavior for him as we always wipe his paws. He is aggressively protective over us but not for one even split second has he shown a lick of aggression toward us. This I would think to classify as either fear or pain (possibly feet hurt from the cold/ice).
We recently had to take him to the emergency clinic due to ingesting some chocolate after failed attempts to induce vomiting. We tried using the peroxide in the kitchen which is where his paws get wiped. He seems fine in the kitchen except when his paws get wiped the last few times. Its not an every time behavior but maybe 5 out of the last 10 times. Why would he be doing this?! He's just barely 1 year old and his fixed. He acts normal and has been very playful and eating fine so I don't think he's even the least bit stressed or afraid. Could it simply be his paws are sensitive because of the hard/cold snow and ice he's forced to walk on to potty?! Any insight is appreciated. |

And we are still working on socialization techniques and training. We rescued him from unloving owners at 6 months so its a work in progress. This stated just so nobody thinks we made him this way. Very loving dog with very loving owners.

It might be that his feet just hurt from the snow/cold. We wipe our boxers feet after coming in from outside when it has rained. (I HATE MUD IN THE HOUSE) They both sit & give us front paws. Then we give them the command to stand while we wipe the back paws. (Murphy is still in training but Pheona knows the full drill). Just keep an eye on him & maybe even have him lay with you once he's in and just hold a towel on his paws to help warm them up first before wiping them off. Just see how he handles that.
