Our vet was concerned because Jackyl will be 2 in February, and weighs in at 48lbs. He asked to do some bloodwork, make sure everything was ok, since my husband assured him that Jackyl is a purebred boxer. He said Jackyl was too small though, and wanted some reassurance. Couple days later.....
Jackyl is not purebred. He has american pit bull in him! Hubby is ticked and upset, i could care less, hes still my baby |

My Pheona will be 2 the end of March and she weighs 48 pounds. Our vet has said seeing as how she was the runt & weighed in at 2 pounds her first vet visit, she'd just remain small. She might be small but she's a powerful girl. Looking at the average for female boxers she's only shy of the lowest weight by a couple pounds. I think she's perfect the way she is.

Nikki will be 11 months in a few days and is 39 pounds. She has her CKC purebreed papers. I actually like her being on the smaller side. I know she's not done growing yet. My sister had a pitbull he was the best dog ever!!

Did the vet do the Wisdom panel on him? If so, take the results with a grain of salt...that test is a joke. A client of ours decided to do it, as a sort of Christmas surprise gift for his wife. The have 2 mixed breed dogs, and were curious as to what they might be mixed with. One came back a rottweiler/collie/something else that I can't remember...which seemed kind of on target, as he had the looks and personality to support that. The other dog came back as a beagle/dalmation...which was hilarious, because this dog is 80 lbs, and looks kind of like a buffalo. She doesn't have ANY of those breed characteristics. At all. None. We've done 1 or 2 others since then, and all came back with off the wall mixes that just don't seem right. I really don't put any faith in those results. That said...the only reason I'd be upset (if your pup is truly a mix) is if you'd purchased him from a decent breeder, and paid much for him. If you're not out a lot of money, then tell the hubby not to worry so much, and love your guy for who he is.

Well, just chalk it up to live and learn, and don't buy from pet stores anymore, lol. Still, I would hesitate to take the Wisdom Panel for gospel truth. If he looks like a boxer, and acts like a boxer, he's probably a boxer....just not a very well bred one. Boxers are considered bully breeds, after all, and the Wisdom Panel is "supposed" to tell you the genetic heritage of your pet. Did the test result tell you what percentage pit bull is in there?

Supposedly its like 75% pitbull, which i doubt on that since he looks all boxer. The pet store i got him at was one i was working at, he was more of a rescue than a "oo love the breed gotta have". honestly im surprised he lived, the other pups werent so lucky. i dont really care what he is, hes my baby
