There I was out front in my driveway with Pepper sniffing away while she went to the bathroom. To my left a neighboor who had just moved in had his Pit on his driveway much to my surprise as he had just told me two days prior that he had to give up his dog to move into that house. As I saw the dog approche it looked like a miniture tiger with muscles bulging out of hind quarters and forelgs. I was (at the moment) impressed. Being a guy and all. But that changed in a split sec as it crossed my front lawn in a low profile( all the language of hunting) and did a slow walk toward my Boxer. My Pepper being natrally shy of everthing came over to me while they both sniffed each other. Pepper knew before I did that the Pit was going to turn as she immediately made a fast 180 and that's when the Pit teeth bared back and put a puncture wound in the side of my Pepper. To Peppers credit she ran into the open garage with the Pit following close behind. At this moment I kicked that Pit so hard that did nothing to slow that little steroid injected monster down. Didn't even phase it. I kid you not. Left a bruise on my foot! Thank GOD and I don't say this lightly, the garage door to the house was closed as my wife & daughter were inside. Pepper seeing that closed made like a bullet out of the garage and across the street. The Pit had no chance of catching her. If I recall from memory my last boxer, Taz, was very fast too.
Well, as the pit came out of the garage I hit that dog with a stick and again it just kept going. At this point the neighbor came over to get the dog but of course it ignored them and crossed the street too. Here is were training come in folks. I called Pepper and she by passed the Pit quckly and came running over to me as I quickly let her inside the house. A few tense moment this morning. To say I was not composed is an understatement. I want these renters OUT OF HERE!Well, thanks for the read. Sorry this is my hello I'm back thread. But she is doing ok, as her side where her puncture wound is has crusted over. I called animal control, 911, my HOA security as we have 24 hr patrol and my next step will be to contact a manager at the HOA HQ to see what policy i in place for renters having Pits. I'm fortunate a Sgt with the Sherrif dept came out to investigate and cite the renters. I'll be talking with the owners of the home tomorrow who ironically is a lawyerand has several other homes in the neighboorhood. Grrr. My foot hurts! |

You did all the right things! Glad it was no worse for Pepper than it is. I've seen pits take down wild hogs. In my area, it's required that all pets be on a leash or a tether. It sounds like that is not the case where you are.

OMG...poor Pepper. She must be traumatized, I know I would be. Ouch on your foot. Please keep us posted on how she is as well as what they do about this pit & its owners.

The owners should be cited/ fined and hopefully they will learn to keep an eye on their dog. This could easily have been a GSD, Husky, Rott, or another unsocialized boxer. I am sorry Pepper was attacked. Hopefully there are no lasting ill effects.

I don't care who was at fault. If a dog needs to be euth'd, there's a humane way to go about it.

Wow. there are no words for the cruelty of that statement.
The owner is responsible, plain and simple. I had a dog aggressive rott that never hurt another dog because we were responsible owners. This dog was obviously not human aggressive or it would have turned on OP while he was kicking and hitting it. Its ppl like you that are responsible for BSL. OP: I'm very sorry this happened. It must have been very frightening. I hope pepper heals quickly. And those neighbors move out and are held accountable. Hopefully they will be more responsible in the future.
