So, it's been almost impossible for us to file Serena's nails. We have one of those pedi-paw tools which works fairly well but she absolutely hates having it done. We've handled her paws since we got her, we let her check out the unit so she could get used to it. We started out slowly, one or two nails a night.
She's a breeze to bathe and loves having her teeth brushed and ears cleaned, so its not that she doesn't like being handled for grooming. It's just the nails being filed. She's ok with them being clipped though. Any suggestions? |

Thanks, we have been giving her treats when she does sit still but it's like a losing battle. It definitely is the noise from the unit. We'll just keep trying and hopefully she will get used to it.

I had the same problem with Karma. I tried the pedi paws and clippers. I would treat her everytime she would even let me touch her with the pedi paws off. I had no luck. Tried clippers and no luck. I feel your pain.
My solution to this worked!! I picked her up and put her on a table. She actually let me use the dremel (better than a pedi paws) on each and every single nail. I didnt even have to give her treats either! I figured they do it that way at the doggy salon and dont struggle with her so i thought i would try it. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

The noise is a scary thing for them. I started introducing my while it was turned off.... let her sniff it and check it out, and treated her while she explored it. Then I would turn it on (not put it near her) treat her. And I built it up from there. Now she will lay and sleep while I do her nails. My golden not so much.. we just clip his when they need it.
Good luck... I know it can get frustrating because they need them done. |
