Default how long have you waited to get a boxer from a breeder?

HI all, with my new pup on the way, I am planning on getting a playmate for her in 6 months or so. Most likely a baby brother. I plan to go through a reputable breeder and hope for the best. My timeline to do this is kind of tight. I work from home right now and and will be for the next 11 months. Then, after that I will be working back in my corporate office in Dallas. Right now I am in the middle of the west texas desert. No breeders, no boxer rescue. So, I am willing to go on some waiting lists with breeders that are far away with the hopes that the breedings will take and a baby pup will be ready in 6 months or so. This will give me about 5 to 6 months to raise the pup at home along with his playmate Gracie.
My question is, what is the longest you waited on a wait list? Or what is the longest it took you to get a boxer through a reputable breeder? Of course if i were in the city i could go through a rescue probably not wait that long for a baby, but that is not an option right now. To be honest, I can see why some people turn to back yard breeders as an alternative (price/availability/location), etc but I know that is not the best thing to do for the breed.
How long have you had to wait? I have found 1 reputable breeder that I am thinking about going on a list for, and hoping for the best. I would have to go 550 miles to pick the pup up (if the breeding takes, and there are males available).... jeeeeez.

I waited 6 months for Karma. It took about 6 months of research and deciding before we put a deposit down for her.

I know my breeder has lists and she just had 3 litters and cannot fulfill her primary list. So those that didn't get a puppy this time will get one with the next litter if possible. I was on another list for this spring but I happened to get Destiny earlier than expected.

I got lucky in that both Logan and Abby were available when I happened to be looking. Actually, with Abby we weren't really looking to add another boxer to the family, but we saw her pic and fell in love. She's my dad's girl. Both of the breeders I went through are from Arizona and they are both reputable in that they're involved in conformation, they carefully plan each and every litter, they health test the parents before putting them together, and they're choosy on who gets their puppies. So, thankfully for me it was a right place at the right time kind of thing.

In your situation, you could start now in talking to breeders that you're interested in and explain your situation and time frame. Worst case they may still be in the planning phase of their next breeding and they can mark you down for one of their litters. Even if they don't have litters planned now they may know of someone else who does.

I waited also.. I guess your wait depends more on when the breeding is scheduled, and where on the list you are. I was on a list for a litter months before the breeding was scheduled and then because of other things we waited for the next litter. Waiting put us first on the list for females for the next litter. It worked out amazing.. and we are now just weeks away from bringing her home.

I hope it works out with the reputable breeder, I hate seeing BYB being supported but I understand what you were saying. People do choose them for everything you mentioned.

Good luck!

I've been waiting for over a year for my next pup. The wait all depends on when and how often they breed. Then if the breeding. whelping, etc all works out. Hopefully I'll have my pup by June as she isn't even concived yet.. Fingers crossed!!

Wait lists can be as long as 1-2 years depending on the breeders reputation or frequency of breeding.

WOW. I commend those of you that can wait that long! I don't know what i am going to do to get a second baby in my house. Part of me wants to write letters and send in videos of my house to a few rescues to convince them that I am an ideal parent. Or I guess I can always re-home a boxer in need off of CL.
