I bought a mint, used D700 until the bugs get worked out on the D600, although the 1/4000 max shutter speed is deal killer. At least, that was the plan, I'm really liking the D700 now. I thought about the D800, like you have but the file sizes are a bit daunting for me. I still might migrate to a D800 or 800E though. The D700, although a lot lower in sensor pixel count, has astonishingly low noise at high ISO settings and stil makes really nice photographs. For bird & wildlife photography, I use my D7000 and usually with the AF-S 300mm f/4D ED-ID lens and a TC14E II teleconvertor. Another great lens and camera combination!

I'm a Cannon person, although I learned on a Nikon back in the days of 35mm, Black and White film & developing yourself.....hope I didn't tell too much
