So my co-worker's friend found a stray boxer yesterday wandering the streets emaciated and without a collar. She took her to the vet and they just found that she has a fever so they have her antibiotics. It sounds like someone just put her out to fend for herself. Ugh...
Rescues in GA cannot legally take in strays. We would have to either take her to animal control and hope they can pull her after they allow time for her to be claimed, or we have to go through a rigorous process to obtain ownership to be able to surrender her as owners to the rescue. Why does GA make it so hard to save a pups life!?! I may have a fourth dog... Her friend has 4 already and can't keep her long term. I told her I would take her as long as I need to until we can find a home for her. This pic doesn't show as well as the side pic on my co-worker's phone, but you can count every rib and vertebrae and her pelvis sticks way up. ![]() Sent from Petguide.com Free App

Does she look like she has had a litter? Are her nipples hanging at all? Can you post a side picture of her?

I don't have the side pic and it wasn't very clear but she had one bright red nipple hanging. You can't see any other nipples hanging. I thought maybe it was a growth but she said her friend would have said she had one when she talked about the vet visit. She is going to call and talk to her tonight and get more info.

The reason I asked is because I can see the pigment has been licked off of her lips. That is very common in females that have had a litter. It is caused by the moms always cleaning up after the babies and stimulating them to go to the bathroom.

I also see she has a tag on her collar. Can the vets office not run the rabies tag number to see who her owner is?
Thank goodness she is warm and safe now! That poor girl.

Ah I was wondering why her mouth looked like that. Does the loss of pigmentation go away and if so does it go away quickly? My stomach is turning thinking there could be abandoned puppies out there somewhere!
The collar is not hers. I'm guessing the rabies tag is from getting a rabies shot at the vet today. She didn't have a collar or tags of any kind on her when she was found. I agree that her friend is a saint for picking this poor girl up and getting her medical care, food, and a warm bed. Thanks guys. I will definitely keep you all posted.
