Chipping your puppy?

What is a good age to do this if you aren't gettin them 'altered'. They say the needle is big so some wait but i'd like him chipped ASAP. He is 12 wks today.

Here on the military base we are on they have to be chipped when they are registered on the base. Generally they say chipped at 8 weeks but Pheona was so tiny as a pup they marked in her records "due to size we are opting to hold off on chipping". She was around 10-12 weeks when she was chipped. It didn't seem to phase her. Murphy however was chipped right around 8-9 weeks. She didn't like the chipping at all & everyone knew it as she yelped. Made me feel bad. Both Maggie & Patch (our cat) had to be chipped when we moved here. Maggie was cool with it but Patch hissed at everyone & wanted no one to come near her. I don't blame her.

We chip ours at 7-8 weeks of age.

Stella was 5mo she was chipped and spayed. Vet told us they like to do it whe they are a little bigger because as they grw the chip can move around

My breeder chipped ours for us between 7-8 weeks old. I got to watch all the puppies grt theirs and their first set of shots.

The needle is big but not huge. Only 1 of the 8 puppies bled a small bit. None of the others had any reaction at all.

Thanks all! He is officially chipped. Looks horrible but he was brave and didn't complain at all.
