Default Buddy is constipated - What willl help him ?

Hi everyone - Buddy is constipated. I just noticed it this morning. Last nite, he went out to poop, and he took longer than normal. This morning was the same thing. Except this time, it was still daylight outside, so I could see that he tried, but nothing came out.

He doesn't eat people food. I walk him every nite. He's caught up on all of his shots. Does anyone have any thoughts on why he is constipated? Nothing abnormal has happened that I know about.

My neighbor said to give him pumpkin, but he just sniffed it and walked away. I called the vet and she told me that if pumpkin didn't work, to try scrambled eggs. But he threw those up about twenty minutes after eating them. I already scheduled an appointment with the vet for tomorrow morning, but I was just wondering if anyone knew of any other tricks or home remedies I can use on him.

Pumpkin didn't work. Scrambled eggs didn't work. I looked on the internet to see if I can find anything. THis site about dog constipation says you can give him Grape Nuts Flakes, which I assume is for the added fiber??? maybe. Does that sound right? safe? legit? I also heard that you can give your dog a small amount of olive oil mixed with warm milk. Has anyone ever tried one of these tricks?

I don't have grape nuts flakes, but I have corn flakes. Do you think that will work the same? I always heard grapes were bad for dogs. AWWHHHH, I'm so confused and worried about him.

I'm going to take him to the vet regardless, but if anyone can tell me of any tips or remedies that they have used, that they know is SAFE and effective. Please let me know. Thank you sooooo soooo much!

Vaseline is harmless and helps get the poop flowing... most dogs will naturally go for vaseline, but only give them a small amount (say two teaspoons)... definately don't let a dog go wild on it.

For those of you who go "Petroleum products are bad", remember, the body does not digest Vaseline it is the equivalent of Mineral oil (without the runs). The body will just simply clear it...

Being constipated or blocked can kill a cat or dog quite quickly without intervention.

Many vets around the country and my own vet here suggested using vaseline to clear a blockage.

I don't think anyone would think vaseline is bad considering I know many vets that say to use it... honey.

You'd be surprised how many people think that's bad to use.

Canned pumpkin does the trick. *Give a couple of tablespoons then wait a couple of hours then you can give a couple of more. *It can also be used for diaharrea too. *It is safe, easy and simple to use.

We had to give Charlie mineral oil when he ate a piece of material. *That'll make him have to go!

I would get him to the vet. He may have eaten something you are not aware of and have a blockage. If he threw up the eggs you gave him he may have something in him blocking him up. *I just read you had an appointment this morning. How did it go?

Does he like peanut butter? If he wouldn't go for the pumpkin, how about blending it with some peanut and filling a kong...gross sounding, but the peanut butter flavor will probably override the pumpkin and you get at least get the pumpkin into him.

Abby has been stubborn about pooping during her afternoon walk (meaning she finally poops in her crate when she can't handle it anymore), so I've been giving her pumpkin in her kong and she's been going each day when the walkers come...she just can't wait.
