Anyone with assistance, greatly appreciated- Mason has been wearing the same collar for over 10 months. *Over the past 2 months, he's been getting lumps under his neck and has been scratching till the fur is gone. *Vet prescribed oxy-dex. *Not helping much. *Only putting collar on to go outside. Then on to prednisone and Keflex. *Clears up, but once meds stop, here the bumps come again. *I've tried a choke collar chain (not for behavior, but to avoid materials on his neck) but they frequently break when he runs the yard on the leash. *Has anyone been through this? *If so, have you found a collar that is non-allergenic?

What was the collar made of? * Maybe try leather.
I would avoid the choker chain if your tying him out with it. Boy that is asking for trouble if it gets hung up.

I have seen many dogs allergic to fabric/nylon collars. *It is because bacteria can live in them if not washed pretty frequent. *I also would suggest leather....Or getting a new one and washing once a week.

Duke won't wear anything but a choke collar, we don't tie him up outside, we just let him out to play when we are there and when we aren't home his is in his crate. *We have tried everything else and it just irritates him, he scratches at everything. *He cinched up a nylon collar once and almost choked himself. *He is so picky about everything.

My furbabies are allergic to nylon and metal so they develop rashes under their neck similar to pimples. I took off their collars for 24 hours and gave them some Benadryl and the rash is almost gone! So I ordered them natural collars online since most stores only carry nylon or synthetic collars.

Dempsey is also sensitive to every collar we've tried. We only put it on him for walks and public outings. If left on too long, he'll start scratching the front of his neck until it's red. The itching starts when the collar is new, so I don't think bacteria has anything to do with it.
