My boxer is 4 years old. He'll be 5 in April. A few months ago he developed light circles on both of his eyes, right in the center they haven't gotten any bigger and doesn't seem to bother him.. They don't cover his entire eye just little specs right in the center. Any ideas on what that would be or if it is treatable?

I work at an Eye Institute in Oklahoma. Sounds like he has early stages of Cataracts or Glaucoma. I would take him to have his eye pressure checked. They both can lead to blindness and other eye diseases. Then again, it could be nothing. A check-up wouldnt hurt.

Sounds to me like hyperlipidemia , but you would need to find out from a vet for sure. That would be easier than cataracts. Mateo had some hyperlipidemia this last spring and I think it was due to the higher fat diet he was on. We have switched to another diet and his "white rings" are gone. It is caused by high amounts of lipid in the blood. They can be predisposed to it and it can lead to bouts of pancreatitis is you don't watch the diet.
I would get an appt and get him checked out. Nano |

i had the same thing wrong with my boxer, Kaleb...he is 4 almost five too and i took him to the vet this week and she said that it could be thyroid problems. i haven't got his blood drawn yet, but I will get a thyroid T4 panel and cholesterol or lipid panel done. I am hoping it is like Mateo who just had hyperlipidemia. It would be a lot easier than taking a thyroid pill every day and cheaper! did you ever take your boxer to the vet?

My first boxer had this too. They told me the cloudy white spots on the eyes were basically harmless lipids forming on the eyes. As he got older, I'm not sure he could see all that great, but it never seemed to bother him -- never caused him any other problems. I was lucky at the time we had a great vet school that diagnosed it right away, otherwise your vet can tell you if it's anything serious.
