Default Ear Problems

I have a 2 1/2 year old male boxer named Duke and over the last couple of months he has been having some problems with the bottom of his ear. I am not sure what it is and what is causing it, but the bottom looks like it has been ripped off and then scabs over. It takes forever to heal and even though we clean it and stuff it doesn't seem to be getting any better. We are taking him to see a vet this afternoon, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem with their boxer. Thanks!

Autumn has crusty ear tips, I think it's just dry skin, she's had it ever since we got her. It doesn't bother her, and it doesn't bother me (unless you're looking at her ears you wouldn't notice) so I just put some polysporin or even just some moisturizing lotion on them and it does improve them, they're looking pretty good right now actually. I can't imagine it's anything to be that worried about, but let us know what your vet says.

When I brought Keegan home from the rescue, he had scabs around the bottom of his ears. Once I got him on a good food and added salmon oil to his diet they went away and have not come back.

Ok so the visit went well. Turns out the vet thinks the cut at the bottom of the ear is from playing rough with our other boxer, but it hasn't healed because he shakes his heads too much due to an inner ear infection!! Thank goodness we caught it when we did. It seems that our female boxer cleans his ears really good to the human eye, but not good enough I guess. Who knows!! He is on some cream antibiotics and seems to be doing better already!!
