I have a 1 1/2 yr old female white boxer. She has just recently developed these pimple/blister looking sores around her lips. Does anyone know anything about this? I have never seen this on any of my other dogs, and I know she's vulnerable to the sun so she is rarely in it long...I'm stumped.
Thank you, Hol |

Pretty common and very likely the culprit is a dirty food bowl. What bowls are you using for feeding? Stainless are best because bacteria can be washed much better than plastic, but even still they need to be cleaned often. Whenever I slack on cleaning around the top of the bowls both my dogs get these pimples.

just adding something to what sully said... what you can do to get rid of the bumps when they do appear is just wipe their face off with some stridex acne pads (the kind for humans) I have the sensitive skin ones cause they are alcohol free. Tess got the little bumps several times and I would just clean her off after she ate and they would go away in a few days

I do use a stainless steel bowl, but I'll surely keep it more clean lol. I'm not forsure they are 'pimples'. They first started looking like cold sores, but atleast 4 on each side of her lips, and they'll scab and bleed..but as boxer owners you know they are prone to chewing on their lips cause they get in the way lol. So I'm not sure if it's from that, or if her little dirt bed she made outside had something to do with it. The vet is unclear as well and wanted to give her anti-biotics but I'm thinking I'll try some neosporin...I don't know. In the other two boxers I've had...never seen this!
Thanks guys!! |

Anything you put on that area is just going to be licked off. I think if you remove the dirty culprit, whether its a bowl or toy or bone, they will go away in a few days. If you have to put anything on that might be licked off, I personally like bag balm because its less toxic if ingested. Stridex pads may work like meghan said although if they are bleeding I'd leave them alone because that would really sting.
