Default Swallowing and licking lips

Our boxer has episodes where he will be constantly be swallowing and licking his lips with more than usual drooling/salivation during the episode. Nothing stuck in his throat. Any ideas or anybody have the same issue before?

That indicates nausea in a dog. I give some Pepto-bismol to mine if this happens. Two Tabs and then another 2 in another hour. If that doesn't get it I will repeat another dose an hour after that and that usually gets it.

Good advice Nan, but why would the dog be nauseous? Have you changed foods recently? New treats? Eating more grass than normal? If eating more grass, are there any/new chemicals on the grass?

Does it happen in the morning or in the evening? How much before or after a meal does this seem to happen?

Sorry for all the questions, but it might make a difference figuring out what's wrong.

Licking lips can also be a calming signal and salivating may also indicate stress. What is happening around him when he does this?

Ok. . im so releived its not just Zulu that does this every so often. . .

Zulu does a lot of grooming himself and when he does he starts doing this, personally i think its almost like a hairball that gets him feeling sicky. . .best thing to do is let your baby go eat some grass, and he'll be fine in no time or pepto may work as Nan suggested ><

The swallowing sounds awful though doesnt it, you can really hear every swallow, Zulu gets quite anxious with his and just wants to get outside!

When my boxer sounds like he is gulping air, swallowing and licking lips, I know he has an upset stomach and he just wants to vomit whatever it is making him sick. If I take him outside, he will begin to eat grass like a cow and eventually he vomits. Every time he vomits, it has been related to what he ate. I just found out he had food intolerance to Acana and their fish product. The other time he ate one grape which would be deadly if he ate more. Another time I believe I over fed him since I forgot how many cups I gave him. So I hope you will figure out what is causing the licking and swallowing.

I would say try the pepto but also... I would try and note what he was doing before he starts doing this and see if you start to see a pattern of what is triggering it
