Default Why is my Boxer shivering?

My Boxer, who will turn 2 in February started shivering today for most of the afternoon. I think she got scared when she heard a delivery truck at the next house make a very loud sound ( perhaps they dropped an appliance off the truck). Anyway, she finally stopped shivering when I wrapped her in my bathrobe and got her to take a nap. The house is not cold so I can not figure it out. Could this all be from being scared??

She could be shivering from hearing that loud noise, i have one that will do that but only for about a half hour or so, mine does it because i live near a quarry and she does it after they blast.

Laila used to shiver when I turned the oven exhaust fan on. Then, she'd run and hide away in my bedroom.

SuzyQ shivers whenever she is excited. Whenever she sees squirrels or birds or bunnies in the yard (which is pretty much all day every day) she stands and shakes and carries on. If we take her for a walk in town she is so happy at the people and sounds she will shake a little. If she's really excited, like the UPS man comes & I make her sit while I answer the door she just vibrates. We're lucky she has never been afraid of loud noises, but other dogs we've had would shiver at thunder, gun shots etc also.

Adrenaline can do that; it's the fight or flight hormone.

Humans can experience that too.

It stops 30 mins after because adrenaline usually only lasts that long

I also see it in my dogs when they get super duper excited

Not sure what to do to prevent it. I've tried the whole ignore them tactic and they keep shivering. I've tried the whole Cesar Milan thing and tried to snap them out of it; didn't work.

I tried the NILIF tactic, but they still shiver

I had my dog do a lay down for 30 mins!!! He gets very excited when he goes for walks and I wanted him to calm down before heading out 30 mins for a human is a lot of patience IMO .

Thanks to all of you. You have calmed my fears that something was physically wrong with her. She really seemed to loved being wrapped in my fleece bathrobe. Maybe my scent was calming to her. If it happens again, I repeat the bathrobe treatment. Maybe a calming scent does the trick.

Thanks so much,

Woody does it when he is eating but he is still just a baby.

Well, that probably explains what happened to Laila when she went to daycare the first time. She was sooooo excited to play with the other dogs, and she was going non-stop, so they decided to take her out of the play area for a break. They said she was shaking for about 20 min., and had never seen that happen.

Ollie shakes when he is anxious...
It could be from fireworks, momma leaving (thankfully he doesn't do that much anymore - broke my heart), or being around the kitty cat too much (he wants to play with/eat her and he knows he cannot touch her)...

And he does shake when he is chilly ... so he gets a blankie and he is good to go - such a spoiled boy...

Angel shakes during storms, especially when there is thunder, for her I have to ignore her, sounds cruel, but it can make matters worse sometimes if you coddle them..It sounds like the loud noise really startled her and if she's not done it since I would tend to believe that was the cause...
