Freddie had a lump removed the other week and he had 4 stitches - after about a day one of the stitches came out so he was left with an open wound. Took him to the vet and they applied some gunky cream and said it should be okay. There was no blood, as such, escaping from the wound but just a bit of fluid. This then appeared to heal up.
He had his stitches taken out about 2 weeks ago but I've just noticed - that must have come on quite suddenly over the past 2-3 days a lump under his skin - almost in exactly the same spot as his wound was. Could he got some sort of infection from the open wound? I'm presuming this will entail another visit to the vet but just wanted to ask for anybody's opinion on the matter.

It could be a small abscess; it could be a stitch that was left in; it could just be some scar tissue. I would watch it and if it gets larger, see the vet, or if starts oozing, is hot, inflamed, he starts acting differently, etc.
