Default Swollen toe

My boxer King normally has allergy issues especially on his feet and belly. When we were at the vet recently for yeast infected ears the vet told me to give him benadryl 25mg twice a day for the redness on his paws and belly.

Starting yesterday he has been licking non stop at his back Left paw. The one toe is very red, swollen and warm to the touch. There is no pus or drainage coming from it. I gave him his benadryl today and it doesnt seem to be helping. Is it possible for this to be more than just allergies?

I will be calling the vet tomorrow to make an appointment if I dont see improvement in the morning.

The first picture is his other paw that he is not licking. The other two pics are the swollen paw

Sounds like an infection to me, especially with it being warm to the touch. Calling the vet sounds like a good idea.

I agree, it sounds like an infection of some sort. He may have stepped on a small thorn or sticker burr that you don't know about. Sometimes if that happens the wound can close up and you won't even be able to tell something is in there. You could try doing a warm compress or soaking the foot in some warm water until you can get him into the vet.

Last night before bed a sore opened up and began draining pus. I wrapped it up with some gauze and a self adhesive ace bandage. Going to the vet this evening I'll keep you posted.

Well the vet thinks he had a puncture wound that we did not know about and it got infected. Epsom salt soaks, anti-inflammatories, antibiotics and a lovely inflatable collar. If its not better in one week he needs to go back to get a drain placed.
