The only safe ingredients for dogs in couch syrup are dextromethorphan and guaifenisin (not sure of spelling) Do NOT give anything with acetaminophen (tylenol) - it is toxic to dogs. If the cough is dry (no mucous) then you are better off giving all natural honey. If there is green or yellow mucous or boogers than you'll need an antibiotic from your vet. |

Honey is good to give to soothe the throat and also coconut oil which a lot of people use daily as maintenance to guard against various bacteria and viruses. Coconut oil has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. I cant say enough good things about coconut oil. It is even thought to reduce the risk of cancer and other degenerative diseases.

Porter had that. We did the cough syrup and antibiotics but I think what really helped was a vaporizer near his crate at nite. Also we wd steam him in the shower and tap his sides to loosen the phlegm. .

Where did you purchase the coconut oil? And how much do I give him? Is it a pill or liquid form?

MissLB, I just got coconut oil from a local health food store. It's the same brand that you can buy on Amazon & the same size. Another member just posted she got 2 of the same size jars for just a little more than the one I just bought. Next time I will purchase from Amazon. Live & learn!!! I think I read that you start out with around 1/4 teaspoon. I'm hoping to start tonight giving it to my girls.
