Default Pus filled lumps

Yesterday I was out power-washing a shed that's surrounded by trees and brush, and Liby was out with me just sort of wandering around while I was busy. After I was done, I sat down and noticed some of her fur was sticking out at an angle. When I touched it I noticed it was a lump about the size of a pea, and it was kind of a yellowish-green color. While investigating and rubbing it to see if it was crusty or anything like that it popped and a whole bunch of pus came out of it (gross). After I drained all of the pus, it just looked like a small scrape on the surface of the skin that might have had fluids build up underneath it. The skin is a little red and still slightly lumpy (but that could also just be the fur sticking together from the pus I can't tell). Then today I found another one on her hindquarter and handled it in the same manner as the other one. I'm just wondering if anybody has any idea what these could be? Is it a reaction to brushing up against a plant (there is poison ivy out there), or just a scrape and nothing to worry about? We leave a week from today to drive cross-country so if she needs to go to the vet then I need to do it this week!

Ok, no popping things! Pus is a sign of infection so clean those areas and put some neopsorin on them. Popping or picking can drive infection deeper into the tissue. Sometimes pups get acne-like pimples but usually on the muzzle. Call the vet and ask for their advice.

I think what you are describing are sebaceous cysts. They will pop and have pus in them.... You still want to call your vet as to treatment for them. Best of luck to you.

I think you are right. I spent some time on the internet trying to figure out what they could be and cysts were the closest description I could find. I'll be calling her vet here shortly to have them checked out.

@Roccosmom- I didn't really pop them on purpose. I think they were just so full of pus that when I spread the fur and rubbed them to check if they were crusty that they just ruptured. I did use water to clean them and then put neosporin on them.

Thanks for the input everyone!

No she wasn't. She actually doesn't care too much for water.

I did get into the vet today and she seems to think the bumps were from a staph infection. Luckily some of the medicated cream I got when she had an ear infection can also be used for the staph infection, so no new meds to buy! The vet says I just need to put the cream on there to dry out the skin around the infection and it should go away.
