Quick question guys - Is it ok to give Max benadryl meds daily?
As I mentioned, he has little bumps beneath the hair so I was giving him benadryl for a few days. The bumps disappeared after like 4-5 days so I stopped the medication. I read somewhere that you shouldn't give boxers benadryl everyday because it could be bad for them but others say it's ok to use as needed. And now the bumps are back so i dont know if to give him the medication again. Any advice? Also, regarding his eye - i think it might have been a bite or some sort because it now has like a little scab. I will keep an eye on it though. Do you think I should put some ointment on it? Like neosporin or triple antibiotic? Thanks for all your help! |

My Vet said I could give Gouda benadryl daily for her allergies. If you want to read more about the dosage etc here is a link
Benadryl for Dogs ? BENADRYL FOR DOGS As far as Neosporin etc. Yes you can use that on your dog as well http://www.ehow.com/info_8751047_neo...-rash-dog.html

Hey all!
I didn't want to open a new thread so I will just post my new concern on this one! First off, I'd like to update you guys on Max's eye bump and skin allergies. The bump on his eye went away pretty quickly and it's as if he had nothing there, so all is good! As for the food allergies, he is definitely doing a lot better! There are no bumps on his skin or anything. I changed him to Natural Choice with no grains and I think it's helped (even tho he does not like the food at all :/). Also, the weather is a lot cooler now so I think that is helping too. Now...I have encountered another issue! I noticed he had a lot of eye discharge today, more than usual. There was dry crust around his eyes plus fresh boogies in his eyes. Also, he seems a bit down today and for the past like 2 days. He's sleepy a lot and not as interactive so I am starting to get a bit concerned. I also noticed this strange bump on one of his paws that doesn't look too good and a missing little patch of hair around his paw too. I have attached a few pics so you guys can see. Any help/suggestion is appreciated. As always, my dog decides to get sick in the weekend when his vet isn't around. |

And no, he doesn't lick or chew on his paws at all. A stray dog probably has less issues than Max has had. It's always something new with him. :/ |

To me that sore on his paw looks like its allergy related. I see you have changed the food etc do you give him any supplements?

It just looks like an irritation to his foot, like he got it caught in between something and now it looks sore. I would wash it thoroughly in Betadine solution and pat it dry, then place some Polysporin/neosporin on it and keep him from licking it for at least 15 minutes. You want to keep that foot clean and dry.
I dont think its allergy related at all. It looks like he places his feet up on the fence a lot, perhaps looking for his people. I get that you love your dog but why have him if he has to stay outside? Have you ever thought of placing him with someone else?
