Default Puppy heart murmur

We bought an 8 week old puppy with a mild heart murmur that the doctor informed us would probably go away by 12 weeks .. we just went to the vet for her 12 week check up and she still has a mild murmur. The vet informed us that if she still has this at her 16 week check up then she will probably have it for life and this will lead to other heart health issues. I am very sad about the news since I thought it was just going to go away on its own. I am going to stay positive for her 16 week check up but does anyone have any experience with a dog with a heart murmur? Any advise or experience will help. Thanks.

Here are two very informative links on heart murmurs. I am not 100% sure a murmur will lead to other issues as your puppy gets older. Maybe others will have more experience with this. I would take the wait and see attitude. Have you spoken with the breeder? Do any of the other puppies have murmurs?

01 Heart Murmurs - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company!

This link in particular talks about what types of murmurs may lead to problems down the line. I would read this and take some notes to formulate some questions for your vet.

I hope this helps. I understand how stressful this is - especially with a new puppy.

Our pups had heart murmurs. Our usual vet did not do the first check up and the vet on call made a HUGE deal. I went home in tears. Talked to a couple of my boxer friends that assured me that it is not only common but more common to go away by the 4th month. The next check up, our usual vet was scheduled. She said the same thing and said that it is very livable, very treatable. By the 4th month both of my pups had "grown out of it" so try to not over think it yet.

My dog Mo had a mild murmer his whole life. He died at 12 and not of a heart condition. He never had a symptom of heart disease. Relax, this really could be nothing.
