So I havent posted on here in a while. Just wanted to update on Ty. He has unfortunately been resistant to all chemo this far. Those drugs have been vincristine, cytoxan and 1 dose of doxorubicin. He had an echocardiogram before his docorubicin dose and everything looked great. He did awesome with it but just did not get any decrease in his node size. So this leaves us with some decision to make. The veterinarian has called the oncologist and recommended that we try CCNU and Elspar. Unfortunately the vet has been unable to obtain ANY Elspar. I work for a hospital as an RN and the pharmacy here has been able to find 3 vials of it for me!!! YAY!!! So we go in tomorrow for bloodwork to check CBC and liver/kidneys before the CCNU starts and we will get the first Elspar and CCNU on Thursday. From everything I have read, people say that the nodes go down right away after Elspar and the oncologist said that this would be our silver bullet medication. I am hopeful as he is still doing great and being the sweet goofy guy that he always is. Thanks for thinking about us!

My Gouda had CCNU(Lomustine) unfortunately after just 2 courses it severely damaged her liver and we had to stop. I would recommend starting Milk Thistle now before the CCNU to protect the liver. My oncologist did not even suggest it to me and I wish she had. I didnt start holistic therapies(and researching them) until Gouda had the liver damage. Once I started the Milk Thistle which she was on until she crossed the bridge her liver enzymes improved and towards the end of her life improved to the high normal range. Make sure they do complete bloodwork before each course of CCNU. Many dogs with Lymphoma have had good results with CCNU, unfortunately Gouda was one of the ones that did not. I hope it works keep us posted
As far as Elspar we never tried that so I cant comment.
