I am new to this site and just hoping to find some support for what I am dealing with currently with my boy Tyson. Just a week ago I found some very hard lumps under his jaw and by his shoulders. I took him to the vet and she aspirated them and sent them off for cytology. I will hopefully find out the results tomorrow or Tuesday. I have been a nervous wreck since we saw the vet. He is acting fine and the happy boy that he always is. I am hoping for a miracle that it is something else, but also know the very real possibility that he has lymphoma. I was a veterinary technician for 5 years so I do know some of what is involved, although this is all very different when it is your own pet. I have been doing a lot of research and plan on doing chemotherapy if it is indicated, just very nervous about what we will find out.

Welcome to the forum. I know what its like to deal with cancer. Did the Vet mention Lymphoma? If so Im sure you know from being a Vet tech the more info you get from the pathology tests the better if it is indeed cancer, the grade, stage etc. There is a lot of information out there and it can be quite overwhelming at first I know that first hand. Hopefully you will get back good results but if not there are lots of groups even groups for specific cancers. Best of luck to you and keep us posted.

Well the results came back as atypical lymphoid hyperplasia. We are going to draw a tick panel tomorrow as this could be what is causing his lymph nodes to swell. Unfortunately at this point in time, it could still be lymphoma. If his lymph nodes do not go down, the next thing to do would be to send an entire lymph node off for biopsy. If the cancer is not in the whole node, then the part that was aspirated could not have contained the cancer. So, we will continue on and hope that his lymph nodes are swollen due to a tick borne illness. I will keep all updated!!

Yes, good news so far! We submitted aspirates from 3 lymph nodes, so hopefully if it was cancer, it would have been found in one of the lymph nodes. Going to get blood drawn for the tick panel first thing this morning. We will probably start him on some doxycycline for any tick borne disease now and pray that his lymph nodes go down. I honestly cannot contain my excitement that right now it is not cancerous. He is a miracle dog, this is our second time his doctor thought he had cancer and it has been benign.
