Pup with Tender GI System? When he first came home he had coccidia which was treated with Albom and cured. But he's had chronic diarrhea ever since. I think his intestinal tract is really messed up. He's growing like a weed, gained seven pounds in three weeks, is extremely active and playful, and doesn't look a bit sick. But he's still got intermittent diarrhea. Sometimes his poop is normal and in the same day its diarrhea. We've been feeding him a limited ingredient kibble. I have tried adding yoghurt to try to get some active bacteria into his intestinal tract. Has anyone else experienced this problem. Help!!

So all tests for coccidia have come back normal? Was he also tested for Giardia? No, loose stools is not normal and since he tested positive for coccidia I would assume he still has it :(

What are you currently feeding him?

What I would do, is calm his tummy down by fasting him. I would only offer him chicken broth for a full 24hrs. No water, so water dishes should be removed. Just as much broth as he wants. This will keep him hydrated but also help calm and sooth his irritated GI tract.

Then, I would cook up some rice and ground beef. Mix it about 1 part beef to 2 parts rice and offer this to him for the next 3 days. If his stool is consistantly firm then you can slowly transition him to what ever food he was on before or to something new if you wish. If his poops are still loose, then you are still dealing with Coccidia or some other parasite.

Kari really knows what she is talking about, I would take her advice :D

i am feeding him Natures Variety Instinct kibble, limited ingredient turkey. I have taken several stool samples in and they find not Giardia, Coccidia or worms. I even paid the $100 to have an outside lab test the stool. I am totally at a lose. They put him on 3 days of panacur and flagyl just in case they misses something. My poor baby has had diarrhea and soft poop for all 5 month of his life. Do you think another 9 days on Albon with help? When he was 8 weeks old he was put on Albon for 9 days then at about 12 weeks another round of Albon.
