Our beautiful Brindle Boxer Laila Passed away tonight 11/14/12:
I joined this site on 11/12/12 to seek out others who had experience with Pancreatitus, and found many who were dealing with it. I beg all of you to read Laila's story as sometimes Pancreatitus is the diagnosis and it is the dogs body trying to breakdown a foreign object swallowed. Back in September Laila became ill and we took her to the 24hr emergency Animal hospital with acute stomach cramping issues, where she was having trouble walking and even standing. I believed back then that she had swallowed something and that she was suffering from an obstruction, so I had them test her with X-rays and sonograms, with barium and they saw nothing. 48hr later she was diagnosed with Pancreatitis and we took her home, we were given a prescription, Laila quickly did recover, we then too were convinced it was pancreatitis. We talked to some friends who recommended a local Vet who turned out to be very good. He changed her meds and put her on special food and she did great, and was back to normal for the last month, and we believed her Pancreas was stable. About a week ago her appetite was not what it normally was, and she progressively lost her willingness to eat. Last Wednesday I took her to see the Vet who gave her a check up and we all believed that she was suffering a relapse, so more meds and rest. She became worse and soon did not eat anything at all; Sunday night was real bad for her. Monday AM we took her to the vet as I wanted them to put her on IV and find out what was going on with her. Her blood work showed she was suffering from an infection, and then after more tests they found the root cause of her issues. This morning they performed a sonogram and discovered that she had a perforated intestine and fluid had entered into her body. Laila underwent emergency surgery, where they removed a squeaker from a dog toy, which she ingested and it lodged itself and did the damage. They removed a section of intestine and cleaned her body cavity and closed her up. Post opp she was doing real well, she came out of her anesthesia and was alert, her fever broke, and it appeared she was progressing well. The MD did explain that she was critical and it would be for a few days before she could be deemed out of the woods. We prayed and believed she would be fine, the Vet called us this evening and told us she was not doing well, but was hopeful, about 15min after that call he called again and Laila had crashed and passed away. So very sad. |

I am soo terribly sorry for your loss.. I cant imagine the pain your going through.
This will for sure make me be more cautious with dog toys that have squeakers thats for sure.. which barely any i have do just tennis balls and as soon as they stop squeaking i usually toss them into the garbage, even though I get the Sad Boxer face.. Hugs to you |

Very sad to see how all ended!... I know how hard is!... "Danza", a year old female Boxer dog (shown on the photo), few months ago swallow the whole half of a tennis ball. She became very ill , and stop eating. We took her to two(2) different Vets. First, she was diagnosed having "Gastritis", ..then "Pancreatitis",.. until finally a third Vet intervened, and did more x rays, which show a "rare black spot" which the Vet could not " identify" well what the heck it was. Finally it was decided to quickly do a surgery on her, and it is only then that it was discover what she had ingested. After the removal of the said object from her intestine !!!..(incredible how that object traveled, and got and stop there)she was placed on a diet ,lots of antibiotics and after some time she recover completly, but it was indeed a miracle that she survived such hard event. At present time she is doing well. I then removed ALL the TOYS and since then I dont buy any for any of my 6 Boxers! ...And, Im very sorry for your loss, I know its hard !
