Ok so Duke's ears are quite stinky. I know this might be food related and I'm hoping it will go away once I convince hubby to let me feed him raw.
Are your dog's ears stinky? I want to make sure he doesn't have an ear infection. They're both quite smelly. Our GSD never had stinky ears! Will cleaning them help? They are pretty waxy when I look in there. How far in should I clean and with what? Sorry for all the questions! Lol Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

Nope, Wyatt's don't smell and there's never any buildup in them. When we first got him there was some gunk in them but after a bath I wiped them out and they've been clean ever since. He's also on a mid-range kibble btw... I believe 3.5 stars according to the food advisor website.

Ya my kibble is 4 stars as well (Fromm). I just read that sometimes it's the food that causes the bad smells but maybe that's just doggie body odour! Lol

So could he have a double ear infection? Besides scratching at them he shows no discomfort. I even cleaned them with Qtips today.

I usually clean Gracie's ears with a soft damp warm washcloth once a week or when she gets a bath.

I have a spray bottle of 50/50 mix of water and apple cider vinegar. I spray a few squirts on a baby wipe and wipe inside every couple of days.
Dont go too deep as you can hurt their ear drums and then there's more problems! I'd be very leary about using qtips though! Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

Just a thought, could it be allergies since he's itching?

I use warm water and a soft cotton ball/pad. Beau gets a waxy brown build up pretty easily, so I try to do this often. His ears do not stink though, only one time when he had an ear infection, but his ear was also red and warm.
