I noticed a while back that the base of Logan's front nails are turning brown, but didn't really think anything of it. Last night I decided for the heck of it to do some searching on it and found out it could be a yeast infection?! He doesn't bother with his paws at all. He's not itchy nor does he lick or bite at them. He does however use his paws when he's playing with his stuffed Kong. Could that be irritating them? I think it's only his front paws. I'll have to double check tonight and I can post pics if you want to see.
Will he need antibiotics or will the ACV home remedy be enough? Could this be leftover problems from being on kibble or could it be something with raw causing it? I feel bad I didn't act on it sooner, but they weren't bothering him so I thought it was maybe just a natural change. Could it be a natural change?

hmmm... I'm not sure Mandy. Duke's nails aren't all clear. He has a couple that are darker. I just thought it was the colouring since the pads on his feet are also lighter and darker in some spots?

do you give him Coconut Oil it works great for Yeast infections and lots other stuff ??
Rex has/had some brown on his too but he had Yeast between his toes & pads from moist feet so had to soak in ACV mix everyday for 3-6 minutes and wipe dry after... it went away but I know what your talking about the Brown base on toes.. Rex has/had a few.... I just thought it was dirt now I'm going to look tonight when I get home from work might have to rub some coconut oil on them! |

Susy, the area I'm talking about is where nail meets the toe. Kind of like where we have our half moon on our nails if that makes sense. LOL I know one of his front paws has it, but can't remember if the other does or if the hind paws do. I'm going to peek at lunch. He wasn't showing any signs of being irritated by it so I didn't think much of it.
Dawn, I do have coconut oil, but haven't given it to him yet. I got it when he was having issues on kibble and was going to start him on it, but we went with raw instead. Then I read that it's like a detox to get started on it so I wanted to hold off until he was doing well on raw. Would you start with 1/4 teaspoon and is it that amount daily? When do you increase the amount? I'll start him on it tonight!

Start with about 1/4 tsp YES... give it everyday but if you notice soft poops reduce the amount given. You can always rub the coconut oil on his toes but if you can keep him still to rub it in good and not lick his toes... lol I just keep Rex toes clean now and watch them close, he's been good since we moved into our house and snow in the yard to keep the dirt off his feet...i always check his hind paws as thats where his yeast was Bad..its good now but i give him about 1/2-1 tablespoon of Coconut oil daily.. He drools when he hears the lid open..haha ![]()

I think it is yeast but I don't think you should beat yourself up about it
Try the ACV.. it could just be leftover from the kibble issues. It does take awhile for the nail beds to clear up again. Bosley had these when he was just about 8 months. I just did the ACV mix and out some in his water dish as well. It cleared up fine. I'm sure if you do that combined with the coconut oil, they're clear up. |

I was told long ago that is bacteria. Not sure but Baylee has a couple of nails like that and I have seen many many boxers the same way. It would be nice to know the truth. The vet has never said anything about it and the guy i spoke with about it said there wasn't a cure or fix for it. *shrugs* you got me. LOL

I found out my Rosco has the same. He has had it for a while but somebody told me that their dog had the same thing and they asked their vet and he said it was nothing. Ha. So I have been soaking his feet in betadine iodine n water and also vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and water but I just got my ACV with mother so I'm going to use that mixed with water now. Omgosh it stinks too I hate that ACV bleh. And I also give him acidophilus once a day along with oil of oregano pill, Oregano leaves, and ACV all hidden in his food. I can tell some nails are getting better but I'm sure that its not all better bc I still need to change foods.

Both mine have that on their nails and the vet has seen it and never said anything. Now I'm curious
