Jax was like that still is actually at 4 months its normal!!! Just keep an eye on food intake and bowl movements to ensure they add up
This was jax at 11 weeks
Skinny ribs
This is him now filling out a bit
She came to me on science diet but I am transitioning to raw. I started with chicken and gave her a couple tenders. Bought a scale yesterday so I could start logging weights.
She has also had some cooked cubed chicken for training treats.
Yesterday the vet gave her some dewormer and although I see nothing her past 3 BM have been awfully liquidy and now passing a little mucus.
Not worms- the bacteria coccidiosis- he said its common. Puppies carry it can become an issue if the dog is stressed- like from moving to a new home... So today and the next 5 we are keeping things mellow.
Something just didn't seem right so I took her to a different vet for a second opinion. She tested negative for coccidiosis but had the WORSTE hook worm infestation they've ever seen. Of course the first thing they did was take her off the raw and onto boiled chicken and rice. Per the forums suggestion I have her a small amount of canned pumpkin but the vet didn't like that either. They will be testing for parvo and salmonilla.
I am actually sitting at the vet right now for our 3rd visit in three days. I'm heavy hearted as I wait for more test results. This is not how I pictured our first experience with our long anticipated boxer... But she's in good hands as we will do whatever is necessary to see her thrive.

Thanks! She is now being treated with anti-biotics incase there is a stomach Infection due to all the hook worms compromising her immune system. They also put her on chicken baby food jars- 2 per meal up to 6 times a day...
I also have to collect stool all weekend just incase we need to do a salmonella culture.
My biggest concern now is just getting her good flora built up after the anti biotics go and wipe her completely out... Even with my kids I use anti-biotics as the very last of all resorts...
I do have one question for the forum- the vet asked me what kibble I use- and we use the "Akana" brand bio appropriate (80-10-10) dog food made by champion pet foods... The vet never even heard of it and wants me on to put her on science diet puppy... but the first ingredient is: corn- followed by chicken by-product- corn gluten... Etc. what do you all feed your boxer puppies if you can't do raw?!

2ManyDogs-
I 150% agree with you... however the vet has me FREAKED out with even the possibility of semolina. Myself I am pro holistic, whole food, as natural as they come and even stick primarily to a vegan diet. When it comes to dogs- I believe that 'raw' is best for them... vets aren't necessarily well rounded when it comes to nutrition just as MDs aren't dietitians. Im not ANTI -meds- but she's only 10 weeks and they've already put her on 5 rounds of de-wormer, 2 albons, and now antibiotics... thats a lot for a little boxers system to have to compensate with and heal from.
What is the NEXT best thing to raw? Just for now while she gets her stools better and through all the vet mess? After she's on the upswing I will once again gradually start the raw transition.
I honestly would keep going with raw. Dog food has salmonella in it just like raw meat could. There have been tons of recalls lately for kibble contaminated with salmonella as well as mold. I really don't think feeding raw would do anymore harm.
I don't know what other brands of kibble you have available in HI, but I definitely would not go with Science Diet as your vet suggested. As you already noticed the first ingredient is corn which is no good for dogs!
I hope she gets better soon! Sorry you're having to go through all of this.
