I noticed under our 7 month old boxer's left armpit there are some strange looking spots. We have looked online to see what it could be but there seems to not be any matches. We have bathed her multiple times and have tried to scrub them off and nothing happens.
We have tried to pop them like a pimple and nothing happens. About a month ago we had her spayed and she had gone in with fleas and we have been treating her with the Advantage liquid you place on her back. She is due for another dose on Monday. it doesn't seem to bother her at all. It's not itchy. We have no idea what it could be and we are going to make an appointment with the vet. I noticed it yesterday on her and now it is spreading to her other armpit and onto her chest. If anyone knows what it might be let us know! We feed her Natural Balance LID Potato and Duck formula because she has gotten a red itchy rash from the previous food we fed her and as soon as we switched to this in a few days it cleared right up.

It could be allergies which caused a bacterial or fungal infection. Do you have any organic apple cider vinegar or organic coconut oil?

I put the apple cider vinegar on the food, make sure it's the one "with mother" not the cooking kind. I believe the put coconut oil on their skin or I hear of some people making their own shampoo by adding coconut oil.

With the ACV you can put it on a clean cloth and wipe it on the area 2 times daily. ONLY if there are no open sores or scratches. If thats the case dilute the ACV 50/50 with water. The coconut oil can be put on topically or taken internally. For more info on both check out these threads:

I have a westie mix with terrible allergies. She had black skin surrounding and including all of her nipples, along with red feet and ears when we got her. We changed her to a grain free food, and her black patches are nearly gone now. I also give her coconut oil in her food 2x daily. In addition, I give her a foot soak daily in Betadine mixed with water (to look like iced tea). It's also antifungal/antibacterial like ACV, but is more soothing. You can wipe it on other areas that you can't dip.
You could also bathe the dog weekly in a soothing shampoo, such as one that contains tea tree oil. Definitely read and save the links about ACV and coconut oil that Sue posted. They're full of great information! |
