Well, I had Winnie at the vet's last night for his routine blood work up and they found an ear infection. After a shot of penicillon he was feeling much better last night. He was again off this morning. I called the vet and his blood work showed very high white blood cell count. Went up for x-rays which were inconclusive. I went to the specialist from there for an ultra sound. They found an approx 3x4cm mass in his small intestines. Without a biopsey they don't know what type of cancer it is. It is focused (I think that was the word the vet used) so surgery could be helpful but we have to consider his advanced age (which we aren't really sure what it is). I feel like I've been hit over the head with a sledge hammer. I don't know what to do. They gave me prednisone for his pain and in hopes it is the type of cancer that would respond to steriod treatment but I can't start until Monday because he had Rimadyl this morning for his arthritis. My hubby was upstate visiting his brother. He is on his way home now. Just don't know what to do.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear the news. Just take some time to think things over and do some research when you can. Once this sinks in a little bit your head might be clearer to help you decide which way you want to go.
I'll keep you guys in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I am thinking if there were signs I missed. His last blood work was only a few months ago and his last x-ray about 9 mos ago. As the specialist informed me, the x-ray quality of my vet's machine is pretty crappy. Who knew. I think I'm shopping for a new vet for my younger one. Didn't even pay the bill for the x-rays today since they had me off to the specialist who had a brief window to see Win. Wondering whether I will pay the bill for he crappy x-ray....Don't know. I feel like I should have asked more questions while there, but I was pretty distraught. My husband has abut 4 more hours of driving to get here but he is leaning toward the surgery. Winston has always been so delicate and it would entail removing all his intestines and then putting them back in. Pretty invasive. Winston is such a good dog and he has had a crappy life. I haven't even had him for 3 years!!! I knew he was a senior when we adopted him. I was hoping we had more time is all. Yea, I know I'm having a pitty party and I better snap out of it. I want Winnie to be happy and I gotta snap out of it for Porter too.
