Hi... Georgie's had a few pink, furless spots recently (under her chin and on her forearm) And shes had some scratching (not isolated spots, but enough to notice). So I took her the vet to have it checked out.
He did a skin scrape and she tested positive for demodex (mites). He said this is common and probably passed along from her mother. He want to do a "dip" on Friday (tomorrow). This will be one of two dips.. But now I am concerned due to some Internet reading and another post here (about mange). Is it dangerous to have her dipped? Will she lose her fur and be uncomfortable?! Is there another treatment that will be as effective?! My dog is not miserable right now, but the vet did day that her immune system is not fighting the "normal" mites off?! Any suggestions or advice for puppy mites?! Thanks! This might work. I don't know if I'd dip. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

Personally I would not do the dips. This is more common in the US than over here in Canada. Over here we just use Ivermectin either orally or in shots.

Murphy tested positive for demodex. She is currently getting dectomax shots once a week. Today was the third shot. I haven't noticed her getting worse so that is a plus. Murphy has spots on 3 of her legs & a spot on her side. I hope Georgie starts to heal up soon. I know I switched Murphy to a grain free food & treats.

Hi... I cancelled Georgie's dip for tomorrow! I just need to think about things more and try another form of treatment before doing the dip...
I am going to try some of the holistic treatments as well. But I asked I there is another sort of oral treatment to give her before doing the dip. Again, she hasn't been scratching all too much, but I don't want her to get worse!!! Thanks again for all your advice and help!! Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |
