Anyone have this happen to ther dog? What happened and what did you go about helping ? My not even 2 year old boxer has a hard cyst type knot in the ride side of his neck that feels like it is attached to something going up to the end of his jaw. I am torn on if its his lymph node or Salivary Gland. I'm taking him to the vet after work today but am wanting some reassurance before taking him in. I always think of the worse first. I don't think I can deal with it if its the "C". He is too young and too full of life. Thoughts?!

It sounds like its his lymph node. It could just be inflammed because he is fighting a cold or something. I would get it checked out regardless.

I'm hoping its just an infection. I mean have you ever heard of a 2 year old getting lymphoma. I can understand if he was 8-9 but not even 2. I just seems so impossible. This is when owning a dog is the hardest.

I know you must be completely stressed over this - I definitely would be.

Try to be positive. Perhaps he is fighting something off. Let us know what happens.

Roccosmom: That was probably the most positive site i have read about lymph nodes. Since its only 1 and its not HUGE swollen, its more like a hard piece of gum feeling in there that is attached to a longer piece of hard gum up to his jaw, hopefully possibly its him fighting an infection. since the weather is changing and he is prone to allergies, i am HOPING its just some kind of little cold he is fighting. I called the vet and made the appointment to go at 4:45. It's only 12, so i have 4 more hours to surf the web to better prepare myself, but honestly i dont want to read anymore after reading the link you sent me. It really made me feel about 10% better. It sounds alot like what is going on with him. He has been getting one of his eyes with alot of goober and his nose is running a little, well more wet than usual. but i could just be nit picking everything now. i will try to get back on here after the vet visit (if its positive) to let everyone know. if its negative i may not be on for a day or 2 because i will be in a corner bawling my eyes out. These dogs are my children. I really can't take bad news. I have had 2 puppies die over born illnesses, i cant have another die over cancer so young in his life. we have an 7 yr old boxer with bumps all over him but im not freaking out as much because i know old age and he has lived a good life. Bolts has only just begun and he is such a little fighter. He will go until the end whatever you do. He's our head dog and has the biggest personality. These things just stress me out so bad i cant even think straight. Pray for a good feedback from the vet. im definitely going to get it needle aspired, even if they think its a cold, i still need to be 99.9% sure. This hospital is amazing, they can do it right there!

So I went to the vet. The Vet checked the lump. she said its definitely not on the Lymph Node. THANK GOD! SHe did say though since he is a Boxer and they are prone for bumps and lumps popping up everywhere she wants to remove it. She said it would cost less to remove it than to do a needle aspiration and send it out, which i believe her because just the needle aspiration is 45 bucks and to send it out is 138 dollars to get tested. they can look at the fluid they collected under a microscope but she said its not even close to what they can do when they send it off, but if there was something when it came back i would have already spent 225+ dollars on just getting the little bit they got from the needle tested than will need to make the decision of "do i want to get it removed or not". so she said to just do surgery get it removed she can really get a good look at the whole thing under a microscope and if she feels she sees any cancerous cells than send it off. so the surgery is only 125 dollars. than if she sees that we really need to send it out than pay the extra 138, but if she sees there are no cancerous cells than thats the end of it.
So im glad we made the decision to do the surgery. she said he seems like a very healthy dog but when boxers get lumps out of no where the best thing is to hurry and get them removed and tested. i'm so glad it isnt on his lymph node. phew. now lets pray its benign! so i'm not as nervous now.
I will keep the ones you care updated on here. not maybe replied on here but the ones that did just wanted to give you the update.

I'm glad you're having it checked out
But (and excuse me) how in the crap is surgery only $125?
Anesthesia for surgery is more than that where I live (NJ)

I live in a small town in Florida. Everything is super cheap here. I was just in new York visiting. Super expensive. Just a drink is 14 dollars. Here for that amount we can get 2 doubles: )
