Well after a routine post surgery checkup for Achilles MCT removal, the vet kept him and performed a skin flap surgery this afternoon.
We are so sad. His two incisions would appear to be getting better one day, and then they would split wide open the next. The vet decided that a skin flap would be his greatest chance of healing quickly with minimal pain and mobility issues. My husband took Achilles this morning expecting to bring him home, but now they are keeping him sedated until Christmas Eve! 5 days is a long time! I understand the need to keep him as quiet as possible though and because the wounds are on his hind leg, he uses the leg for everything! To top it all off, I went with my mother yesterday to the same vets to put down her 16 year old fur baby. It was my first experience with this and I was an emotional wreck. Praying that this skin flap takes and Achilles is as good as new soon. I miss him terribly already! Sascha Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

Oh no, poor Achilles. I hope this is the last surgery for him & everything heals properly. I agree, 5 days is a long time. Have you heard from the vet today as far as how surgery went?? Are you able to go visit him while he's there?? So sorry to hear about the loss of your moms fur baby.

The vet called this evening to let us know that the surgery went very well and that he was resting comfortably.
Yes, we can visit although I worry he'll get too excited and strain his leg. Thank you for the well wishes! I hope to post pics soon of Achilles running the property soon! Sascha Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

Keeping you, Achilles and your Mom in my thoughts and sending Achilles major healing vibes! I know it's hard to do but try to take this time while he's resting to refresh yourself by getting some rest, eating well and keeping a positive attitude about everything you encounter. You'll both be the better for it when Achillies comes home.

Awww, I'm sorry to hear that Achilles has to stay at the vet's for such a long time! That must be so hard. The good thing is that the MCT is removed and he's on his journey to healing. He'll be home before you know it.
I'm sorry to hear about your mom's dog. That's a difficult experience to go through. I hope you're doing better today! |
