Kennel cough? Was he around other dogs or boarded recently? I would take him to the vet. I don't want to alarm you, but a dry cough could be a sign of heart disease. Given his age it's probably more likely kennel cough. Could he have something stuck in his throat? Is he a chewer?

It is most likely kennel cough.
Kennel cough usually clears up on it's own in about 3 weeks. So long as Oakley's appetite/ energy is good you don't really need to go to the vet, and so long as there isn't any green / yellow discharge from his eyes / nose and he isn't couching up colored mucous either. If you start seeing "yuckies" or he gets listless / loses appetite then he might need antibiotics. It is contagious to other dogs though, so keep him at home. You can give him vitamin C, and echinacea to help boost his immune system and a spoonful of honey will help soothe his throat. Hope Oakley feels better soon. |
